Shai Fenwick is a Ward 5 resident who is deeply connected to the peaceful, rural character that makes this part of Norman unlike anywhere else in Oklahoma. She believes our future depends on protecting the landscapes, natural beauty, and quiet way of life that we cherish.

“Ward 5 is special because it has space, quiet, wildlife, and time. We should protect that, not pave over it.”

Shai grew up in a household steeped in learning and public service. Her career reflects that same commitment. She has written for newspapers and magazines, supported visually and hearing-impaired students, and today English and Creative Writing in Moore Public Schools, mentoring young people who will shape Oklahoma’s next generation. Shai also teaches courses at both the University of Oklahoma and OSU-OKC.

Shai holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology, a master’s degree in professional writing, and is a doctoral candidate in education at the University of Oklahoma. She has served as Board President of the Future Society of Central Oklahoma, co-founded a consulting firm, and continues to lead teacher-development programs statewide.

Her deepest joy, however, comes from ordinary moments in Ward 5: gardening, reading outdoors, listening to birds, and sitting on her porch with a cup of coffee while watching the sunrise with her husband, Ben. Those moments embody the peace she hopes to preserve.

“I want my neighbors and their children to enjoy the same wild, wonderful Ward 5 that brought all of us here in the first place.”

Shai is running for City Council to defend the natural character of East Norman, stop irresponsible development, and ensure that growth benefits the whole city without sacrificing the rural values and natural spaces that make Ward 5 home.
